About Lydia Ann Piper

Lydia Piper is a self-described “Air Force brat,” who was born in Tokyo, Japan in 1958.  Traveling the world and moving every few years, her family eventually settled in New Mexico in 1971.   After earning a degree in Journalism and Photography from the University of New Mexico in 1984, Piper moved to Los Angeles where she free-lanced as a writer/photographer for several area publications.   In 1991, she returned to Albuquerque and began exploring her interest in art which eventually led to her work in fused glass and stained glass mosaics.

Lydia has always been involved in some form of art or craft all of her life.  But her professional entry into the arts began in 2010, when she became intrigued by the medium of fused glass.  After exploring opportunities to learn as much as she could about the medium, she developed a style that merged form, color and pattern to create one-of-a-kind pieces of glass art, blending contemporary and traditional themes.   This led to representations in several galleries in New Mexico and Arizona.  She is currently represented by Canyon Road Contemporary Art in Santa Fe.

With the success of her fused glass art, Lydia began to explore other ways to express herself through art.  Painting has always been a passion and she began experimenting with different styles and mediums.  This led to liquid art, or what some call acrylic pouring or fluid art.  Some will say it is an addictive medium, and Lydia would agree, completed 20-30 paintings in the first few months of painting.  However, she had refined her technique and now concentrates on developing paintings that truly express her point of view, sense of style and color.

Piper is the owner of Grand Mesa Studios and her work is collections around the world.  Her work has also been featured in shows and exhibitions, as well as several publications.  She lives and works in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
